Diagnosis

In order to provide the best possible care and to achieve the best possible outcome, Dr. Flynn begins with a comprehensive evaluation of your past and current health history. Many times, damage or degenerative changes are found at multiple levels, but only one or two of them may be causing your symptoms. During the first consultation, he will assess your total pain history to initially establish where the damage may be located and how many areas of damage are actually causing your symptoms.

Diagnostic Techniques

Dr. Flynn uses a variety of the most advanced technologies available to precisely target the cause of your pain. Many tests are provided in our office but when additional resources are needed, we work with the region’s finest radiologic and diagnostic imaging providers.

Some of the tests you may need include:

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Discography

Computerized Axial Tomography (CT Scan)

X-rays

Nerve Conduction Velocity Test

Electromyogram (EMG)

Physical Medicine and Wellness

Your well-being is our first concern and we use every available resource and technique to ensure you get back to living a life without pain. There are many non-surgical alternatives and treatments that may benefit patients. These can be used initially or in combination with post-interventional or surgical treatment to ensure the best possible outcome with long-lasting results.

Medications

Medications, either over-the-counter or prescriptions can help in the management of pain, inflammation, muscle spasms, and nerve damage. There are many options available which you and Dr. Flynn will review to determine the one that will work best for you.

Exercise and Rehabilitation

Exercise is essential to keeping healthy and fit and this is especially true for patients with spine problems. You may be prescribed a Core Strengthening program that engages key muscle groups to build a strong foundation to support your back and spine.

There are many programs available today such as Yoga, Pilates, Aquatics, and Aerobics that not only build strong muscles but strong friendships as well . Strengthening the muscles through exercise can not only help repair a current condition, but also help prevent future injuries.

Alternative Treatments

Dr. Flynn employs a holistic approach to patient care and works closely with providers of ancillary and alternative care services to ensure his patients have every opportunity to achieve an unsurpassed level of health and wellness. Some of these services may include Physical Therapy, Traction, Spinal Manipulation, Acupuncture, Massage, Nutritional Therapy and many others.   Dr. Flynn works with a variety of clinicians to outsource sevices not immediately available in his office.

Advanced Surgical Skill

When non-surgical methods are unsuccessful in resolving painful conditions, surgery may be the only option to provide relief. When surgery is necessary, our specialists strive for a minimally invasive approach.  Advanced technology, including endoscopes, microscopes, neurodiagnostic monitoring, fiberoptic video cameras, and minimally invasive surgery has helped improve patient outcomes. Using significantly smaller incisions, our surgeons are able to minimize bleeding and scarring, as well as pain, which can also provide faster recovery.
